Marriott Opens Two Doors at Once: A 100K Card Offer and a Fall Promo That Won't Backdate

Marriott has two things running simultaneously right now, and they reward opposite behaviors. One is worth taking your time over. The other costs you nothing today and everything if you wait.

Door one: the Bonvoy Business card

Amex is running an elevated offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Business Card — 100,000 bonus points plus one Free Night Award, redeemable at properties priced up to 50,000 points, after $8,000 in purchases in the first six months. The annual fee is $125, and the offer runs through November 4, 2026.

The 50,000-point certificate tier is the detail that makes this worth attention. It's high enough to reach genuinely good properties rather than just the ones nobody argues about, and it's not a tier most Bonvoy cards hand out at signup. Marriott's own card page notes the standard caveat: resort fees still apply when you redeem.

The spending requirement is the gate. $8,000 in six months is roughly $1,350 a month, which is manageable on a business card with real expenses running through it and unrealistic if you're manufacturing spend to hit it. If you'd have to strain, the math stops working — you're buying points at a bad rate to earn points.

One sequencing note that catches people: the certificate expires a year after it's issued, and it won't arrive until after you've completed the spending. Know roughly where you're sending it before you apply, not after. A certificate that expires unused is worth exactly nothing, and "I'll find something" is how that happens.

Door two: the fall promotion

Marriott opened registration on September 9 for its global fall promotion. The structure: 1,500 bonus points on eligible paid stays of two consecutive nights or longer, plus an additional 3,000 points at participating resorts — a maximum of 4,500 per stay, with no cap on how many stays qualify.

Stays must fall between September 22 and November 22, 2026. Registration closes November 13.

Taken alone, 1,500 points for a two-night stay is forgettable. The resort bonus is not. Tripling the promotion at resort properties targets exactly the stays where Marriott's standard earning is weakest relative to what you paid, and if your fall travel includes any resort nights, that's where nearly all the value sits.

Register today regardless of whether you have stays booked. It's free, it takes a minute, and it does not apply retroactively — a stay you take before enrolling earns nothing from this promotion, and there's no mechanism to fix that afterward. This is the entire reason this story has any urgency.

Then look at how your fall trips are structured. Two separate one-night bookings earn nothing here; the same two nights consolidated onto one reservation qualify. Splitting a longer stay into multiple bookings does not multiply the bonus, so the optimization runs one direction only — consolidate, don't fragment.

What's excluded

Award nights and free night certificate redemptions don't qualify, which means the two doors don't connect the way you might hope: a stay paid for with the card's Free Night Award earns nothing from the promotion. Neither do one-night stays or most third-party bookings. BVLGARI properties, the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, and Marriott Executive Apartments are out.

How to play both

The card offer rewards deliberation — check the spending requirement against real expenses, pick a destination for the certificate, then apply. Nothing about it is more attractive today than it will be in three weeks, and it runs to November 4.

The promotion rewards two minutes of action right now. Register, then forget about it until your stays post.

If you're doing both, the order is: register for the promotion today, and let your paid fall stays earn the bonus points. Save the certificate for a stay outside the promotion window, since it won't qualify anyway.
